Types of Content Published
These are the type of articles selected for publication from guest contributors:
- Survivor Perspectives (real world stories of living with or healing from trauma, especially ones that help professionals improve their services and/or include relevant research)
- “How To” Articles
- Original Research, Case Studies, Findings Based on Surveys, Polls, and Studies

These are the type of articles not selected:
- Anything that’s more AI than human–AI assistance is not forbidden (It’s encouraged, in fact!), but all AI use must be disclosed and properly cited. Each article posted on this site features a specific “AI Usage Disclosure” in the spirit of transparency. (Example of the type of disclosure expected: “This blog post was written analog-style by a human, but ChatGPT’s ‘SEO Assist’ GPT offered assistance on formatting and generated much of the ‘key take-aways’ section.”)
- Personal memoirs
- Poorly written or content that doesn’t offer much value
Writing Guidelines
All writing submissions should follow these guidelines:
- Articles should be 1,200-2,500 words. Images such as graphs, charts, and infographics are welcome but will be rebranded/reformatted.
- Submit articles as Google Doc links or shares, .DOCX, or .DOC file attachments. Please no .PDFs, .TXTs, or pasting into the body of an email.
- All articles must include a definitions section and a “Key Take-Aways” section at the end. See sample formatting.
- Include URLs to all research referenced. Please carefully cite everything in your article. If there are multiple references to the same piece of research, please cite it each time. To format your references, put the URL in parentheses directly behind the reference. Example: “Nichols says, ‘Suffering is spiritual work. And those who don’t get assigned these chores in life were given participation trophies by the universe'” (https://complextraumaconsultant.com/post-traumatic-growth-survivor-hero) -or- “Suffering is spiritual work, and those who weren’t given trauma chores in life were essentially handed participation trophies, according to Nichols” (https://complextraumaconsultant.com/post-traumatic-growth-survivor-hero). If your reference does not have a URL (i.e. paper book), please use APA 7 formatting. Example: Frankl, Viktor E. (2006). Man’s Search for Meaning. Beacon Press.
- Write objectively, but dipping into a first-person perspective where appropriate is encouraged. Stories are powerful!
- Bulletpoints and subheadings are encouraged. Subheadings that mimic academic writing are highly preferred: Observations, Field Notes, Findings, Data, Analysis, Review, Summary of Finding, Insights, Perspectives, Discourse, Framework, Principles, Thesis, Case Study, Narrative(s).
- There is zero tolerance for sexist or exclusionary language.
- If your article references services, businesses, or concepts you own, sell, or are a stakeholder in, that must be disclosed. Ensure your article presents “pros and cons” or plays “devil’s advocate” to maintain objectivity.
- CTC tends to prefer bold, authentic tones, not stuffy, watered-down, or overly polite wording.
- Your article must be original (no plagiarism) and can not appear (even re-purposed or updated) elsewhere. All published guest posts are the property of ComplexTraumaConsultant.com (You’ll always be the author/contributor, but CTC may use your article on social media, quote squares, etc).
Submission Process
Ensure your membership in the Trauma-Informed Professionals Society is active (Again, guest contributors must be members.) Please start with a thorough proposal. If your article has already been written, feel free to submit it (no proposal needed). You can submit your idea through the main contact form. If your proposal or article is accepted for publication, you’ll hear back shortly. From there, you’ll receive instructions on putting together your author bio, photo, and bio links.
